Lexicons and Leprechauns
So the end of 2008 is here and as I type the final hours of the year (in the UK) are ticking past and what a remarkably eventful year this has been for me.
I’ve discovered and learned so much this year; I don’t think I’ll be able to take it all in for a long time. The biggest discovery, or strictly speaking re-discovery, has been my friends.
Friends are brilliant!
I’ve had so much support from my friends, so much encouragement and “good vibrations”. A few weeks ago I posted on my blog about a particularly unpleasant experience at a local fashion outlet, and the response I received from my friends particularly startled me; from comments on the article to quite lengthy emails, I was and remain genuinely humbled by the responses I received.
My friends; thank you!
I like friends; mine are particularly terrific and somewhat mad, I’m very fortunate. While I was writing a draft of this post, one of my friends used the word “Lexicon” in a conversation, how cool is that? I don’t think I’ve ever heard that term used in a conversation before, I’ve made a resolution to use it myself during 2009 at least once a month.
2009 is already shaping up to be a strange year, even the Zune MP3 player seems to be nervous about it. Huge as 2008 has been for me, 2009 is probably going to be even bigger, I have quite a long list of things to start, finish and work on during 2009, and also the small fact that I hit my fortieth birthday in July.
In keeping with the spirit of this somewhat random and rambling post, this is my top 10 things that happened in 2008.
10. Boris Johnson
Love him or hate him, you cannot deny the Boris factor, completely koala!
9. The Large Hadron Collider
Wonderfully mental, and with a possible outcomes ranging from nothing at all happens, all the way to time stops and it’s the end of the universe.
8. The Olympics
We won some medals, hurrah!
7. Crazy Germans
Especially for this - Germans replace Christmas Cake with Bank Details
6. Q.I.
Six series in and still probably my favourite show on telly, brilliant stuff.
5. Russell Howard
My favourite comedian at the moment, hilarious and witty. Russell is number one on my list of people who I would love to buy a beer for.
4. Only by the Night
The Kings of Leon’s fourth album, and a masterpiece too!
3. My Employer
Logica, and in particularly the staff there. I could not wish to work in a better place.
2. The click-clack sound heels make.
Sure they hurt like hell to wear, but they are just fab!
1. Being Danielle
OK, an obvious one, but I don’t care; I don’t think the novelty will ever wear off.
Other things I’ve been quite fond of in 2008 include Wrath of the Lich King (the World of Warcraft expansion pack), Erasure, and Leprechauns.
I’ve probably rambled enough for this post, and if I’m honest, I’ve completely forgotten what the point was when I first started posting, so I think this is a good time to sign off for 2008.
Happy new year, and keep watching the skies!
